WEC Heads To Edmonton On June 20

WEC logoWorld Extreme Cagefighting on Monday announced its debut event in Canada, although it’s not the location that received most of the speculation in recent weeks.

The promotion will head north to Edmonton, Alberta, instead of the oft rumored Calgary, Alberta.

Rexall Place, home to the National Hockey League Edmonton Oilers, will serve as the venue for WEC 49 on June 20. The arena holds nearly 17,000 fans for hockey games, but according to Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press, it is more likely to be configured for an audience of 8,000 to 9,000 for the fights.

No bouts have been announced as of yet, but several reports point to Canadians Mark Hominick, Chris Horodecki, and Yves Jabouin as likely participants.
