WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown and challenger Leonard Garcia went nose to nose at the WEC 39 weigh-ins on Saturday morning at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. On Sunday night, they go toe to toe when they step into the cage in the Gulf Shore Arena.

Also highlighting the main card – which airs live on the Versus Network – is a lightweight showdown between Chicagoans Bart Palaszewski and Ricardo Lamas, featherweights Jose Aldo and Chris Mickle, and former WEC lightweight champ “Razor” Rob McCullough versus Marcus Hicks.

In preliminary action, Damacio Page knocked out Marcos Galvao in just 18 seconds. Galvao was taken from the cage strapped to a stretcher. He appeared to have a seizure. MMAWeekly.com will follow the situation and provide an update when more information is available.

Update: Galvao was alert in the dressing room at the arena before being taken to the hospital to have a CAT scan. All indications are he is fine.

-Mike Brown vs. Leonard Garcia
R1 – Brown drops Garcia with a right hand and jumps on him trying to finish. Garcia in a lot of trouble and gives up his back. Brown works forr a rear naked choke. Garcia is bloodied but gets back to guard. Brown lands short elbows and passes to half guard. Brown slaps on an arm triangle choke, finishing Garcia.

-Bart Palaszewski vs. Ricardo Lamas
R1 – Palaszewski lands the first strike wtih an outside leg kick. Palaszewski moving forward, but as he throws another leg kick, Lamas catches it and gets the fight to the ground. Palaszewski ties him up in his closed guard and then works for a triangle. Lamas escapes adn lands punches while standing over Palaszewski. Palaszewski gets back to his feet off of Lamas falling. Lamas works for a single-leg takedown as Palaszewski lands short punches to the head and body. Lamas gets it back to the ground and lands a nice flurry of punches as Bartimus covers up. Palaszewski gets back to his feet and lands a flurry of his own as the round ends. MMAWeekly scores it 10-9 for Lamas based on the takedowns.

R2 – Lamas lands a leg kick and Palaszewski rushes in only to be tied up in the clinch. Lamas tries for a hip toss but Palaszewski maintains position. Palaszewski works to break from the clinch but Lamas drops down for a single leg takedown. Palaszewski gives up his back briefly. Lamas standing above the downed Palaszewski and landing punches. Palaszewski looks for an arm bar, but doesn’t get it. Up kick by Palaszewski and he gets back to his feet while taking a flurry of punches in the process. Palaszewski comes on in the closing seconds with a flurry, but too little too late to take the round. MMAWeekly scores round 2, 10-9 for Lamas.

R3 – Lamas throws a few kicks and a superman punch to start the third. Lamas lands an accidental low blow while attempting a flying knee. Palaszewski pushing the action, moving forward. Lamas goes for a takedown, lifting Palaszewski off the ground and slamming him to the canvas. Lamas controling Palaszewski on the ground while Bartimus tries to find a way to get back to his feet. Palaszewski gets back to his feet but is immediately tied up by Lamas. MMAWeekly scores the final round 10-9 for Lamas.

-Jose Aldo vs. Chris Mickle
R1 – Aldo fires a high kick that misses to start the fight. Mickle presses forward but doesn’t land anything. Aldo with a knee as Mickle closed the distance. Aldo flurries on him and the referee stops the fight while Mickle was standing, covered up along the cage.

-Rob McCullough vs. Marcus Hicks
R1 – A brief feeling out period before Hicks closes the distance and clinches 90 seconds into the round. McCullough delivers knees to the thighs and body of Hicks before the referee separates the fighters. Looping left hand by Hicks finds it’s mark. McCullough lands two outside leg kicks and Hicks clinches him against the cage. They’re separated again. Hicks with a left to the body. McCullough closes out the round with leg kicks. Not a lot happened in the first round. MMAWeekly scores it 10-9 for Marcus Hicks.

R2 – Round two starts slow as well. Hicks drops McCullough with a left hand and slaps on a guillotine, but McCullough escapes and lands punches inside of Hick’s guard. Hicks gets back to his feet. McCullough lands a low kick that landed low. After a few seconds, the action is restarted. McCullough pressing the pace now, moving foward, but they clinch along the fence. McCullogh has found his timing and beginning to land strikes. He Flurries on Hicks. Hicks answers with a right hand. McCullough was coming on strong at the end of the round. MMAWeekly scores round 2, 10-9 for Hicks.

R3 – Nothing happening for the first two minutes. A lot of dancing. Hicks lands a straight left hand. McCullough trying to work kicks to the legs and body of Hicks. McCullough is the more active fighter but neither one landing anything damaging. Hicks shoots for a takedown but McCullough defends. Could be a difficult fight to score for the judges. MMAWeekly scores round 3, 10-9 for Rob McCullough.
