With nationally-known fighters already announced to headline the return of the Ultimate Warrior Challenge (UWC) – the DC area’s only all pro MMA Cage-Fighting Show – to the Patriot Center on Saturday, October 11, UWC-CONFRONTATION will also be a truly All-American affair with five current/former members of the U.S. Armed Forces and several other prominent local fighters scheduled to step inside the cage just a few miles outside our Nation’s Capital.

One of the more intriguing matches on the card is a 185-pound military showdown between U.S. Marine Sergeant Shurron Thompson (Team Gideon/Quantico, VA) and Army reservist Kris “Savage” McCray (Gold Medal Grappling/Woodbridge, VA). Both fighters are making their professional debuts, and have earned amateur accolades and championships while fighting in the greater Washington area. Thompson dominated Lance Guckenberger on August 2, winning the 185-pound championship title at Operation Octagon IV.

McCray, born and raised in Germany, with stops in Alabama and Virginia, had an accomplished wrestling career at nearby Woodbridge High School and won a handful of kickboxing tournaments. While coaching wrestling at Woodbridge, he was asked to help launch MMA training with Gold Medal Grappling. His “Ameri-jitsu” style incorporates elements of kickboxing, judo and wrestling, providing crowd-pleasing slams and throws. McCray finalized a perfect amateur career (9-0) by capturing the Operation Octagon Middleweight Championship.

Another highly-anticipated bout featuring a military face-off and local ties involves Bowie-native Marcus Foran (5-2) fighting out of highly-regard FIT NHB in Albuquerque, NM. Foran, a former special forces Marine, will take on Steve “Storm” Sawyer (4-1) of Columbia Submission Fighting in Columbia, SC. Foran submitted Tenyeh Dixon with an impressive armbar at UWC – INASION and will look to succeed again in front of his hometown fans. A former U.S. Army soldier based out of Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, Sawyer has won four consecutive fights, adding some heat to this military melee.

Maryland-native Wade Drake starred as a wrestler at Bowie High School, earning all-state and all-conference accolades and developing a high tolerance for pain along the way. Drake served in the Army, spending time in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. After completing his service, he began preparing for an MMA career with Team Ferocity in Bowie. After a decade of preparation, he had the briefest of amateur careers, with a dominating win on August 2 over Jason Zearfoss at Operation Octagon IV in his first bout. Drake’s professional debut match will be a tough contest with Jackson’s High Altitude MMA star Cody Donovan (2-1).

A pair of local fighters with strong ties to two of the area’s top schools has also signed to fight at UWC – CONFRONTATION.

A two-time all-American wrestler at George Mason University and former U.S. National Team member, Johnny Curtis (1-1) looks for his second victory after being stopped by Josh Feldman at UWC- INVASION last April. He won his MMA debut at the Patriot Center last November with a first-round triangle submission win over Bill Clifford. A Fairfax H.S. graduate, Curtis trains and serves as an instructor at One Spirit Martial Arts under highly-regarded owner/founder and resident Gracie Jiu-Jitsu/MMA/Krav Maga instructor Dave Anderson. Curtis, who owns a Northern Virginia tree removal company, will face promising Colorado-based Brendan Schaub (1-0) in heavyweight action.

Also ready to get back on the winning track is Ron Stallings (5-3-1), who lost to highly-touted local fighter Reshad Woods at UWC – INVASION, in what many observers called the most electrifying fight of the night. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Purple Belt, Stallings has won multiple NAGA, Grapplers Quest, and US Grappling events. Stallings, part of the prestigious Maryland-based Team Lloyd Irvin, has sparred and trained with UFC star Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Confrontation co-Main Event participant Mike “The Hulk” Easton. Stallings will face Tony Sousa (5-2) of Jacksonville, FL-based Team Obake.

UWC – CONFRONTATION is headlined by a bout between light heavyweights Antwain Britt and Terry Cohen.

All fights are subject to change.
