Welterweight Rory Markham is out of the Quad City Silverbacks’ line-up for their May 19 showdown with the Chicago Red Bears due to injury, according to the International Fight League website. Taking his place for the Pat Miletich-coached crew is Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Josh Neer.

While Markham has been a consistent part of the Silverbacks, going 5-1 in IFL competition, Neer is a top fighter and should be an adequate replacement. Neer defeated Ultimate Fighter veterans Melvin Guillard and Joe Stevenson before dropping two straight to Josh Burkman and Nick Diaz, then exited the UFC. Since his loss to Diaz, however, Neer has reeled off 4 straight victories – all finished due to strikes – in a combined time of less than 6 minutes.

Neer enters the ring at the Sears Centre on May 19th in Chicago, Ill. against Mark Miller of the Red Bears. After winning the IFL Championship in both of the first two seasons, the Silverbacks will be counting on Neer to help them get a victory and hopefully earn a spot in the IFL’s postseason competition.

The Silverbacks are currently tied for the fourth and final postseason spot with the Toronto Dragons and the Seattle Tiger Sharks.
