Aaron Simpson vs. Kenny Robertson
Round 1: Robertson clinches and presses Simpson to the fence, neither landing any significant strikes before they break, but then they mix it up with a solid exchange of punches and knees. Somewhere in the exchanges, Robertson suffered a cut high on his forehead. Robertson tosses Simpson to the ground, but he quickly returns the favor. Robertson though on the way up lands a shot that opens a cut on Simpson. Simpson presses him to the cage, underhooks in place, driving knees to the body. Simpson drops down, trying to score a takedown, but Robertson ties him up and drives a knee to the head. They scramble for position, Simpson getting the bodylock and putting Robertson on the mat, maintaining back control and driving knees to the legs. Robertson regains his feet, but Simpson scoops him up and plants him on the mat, if only briefly. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Simpson.
Round 2: Simpson clinches and lands a knee to the body, fends off a Robertson takedown attempt and then applies a bodylock. Robertson is trying to counter with a Kimura, but Simpson maintains position, driving knees to the thighs. Simpson puts Robertson on the mat, but they engage in a scramble that ends with Simpson on top in Robertson’s half guard, grounding and pounding. Simpson moves to the back, but no hooks in, which allows Robertson to regain his feet again. But he immediately drops down trying to take Simpson down, not getting it. Simpson reverses and puts Robertson on his back again, passing to north-south position, sitting on Robertson’s chest. Robertson tries to grab hold of a kneelock, but Simpson is dropping heavy punches to the head. Simpson moves to Robertson’s back, one hook in, punching and hammerfisting to the sides of the head, finishing out the round from there. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Simpson.
Round 3: Simpson quickly gains a Thai clinch but doesn’t do much with it. They scramble and Simpson again gets a bodylock, taking Robertson down to all-fours. Robertson went for one of Simpson’s legs, but got caught in a triangle hold from a north-south type of position, but Robertson escapes. He gets to his feet, but Simpson shoots the double and slams Robertson to the mat. Simpson quickly applies and arm-triangle, but doesn’t finish it, instead gounding and pounding from inside Robertson’s guard. Simpson passes to side control, putting his knee on Robertson’s head, hammerfisting and punching him. Robertson goes to his knees, eating the strikes until the final horn.
