Aaron Simpson vs. Ronny Markes
Round 1: Simpson fires first, but Markes comes back strong, driving in, firing punches, then drops to try and take Simpson down, but they end up in the clinch on the fence. Markes has Simpson’s back to the fence. The referee restarts them at the center of the Octagon. Simpson swings big and misses, but Markes fires back with several low kicks that find their mark. Simpson moves in, but Markes unloads a several punch combination that puts Smpson on his heels. Simpson recovers and fires back with a right hand that puts Markes down. Simpson swarms him, unloading a flurry of ground and pound. He backs out and stands in Markes’ guard, now picking and choosing his shots. He finally just backs away and lets Markes up to his feet. Round 2: Markes opens with some solid leg kicks. Simpson fires back, landing the right hand. Simpson clinches and presses Markes to the cage, driving knees into his thighs. They separate, Markes once again going back to the leg kicks. Simpson lands a couple uppercuts, Markes counters with an elbow. Simpson shoots for the takedown, but Markes stuffs it and they end up clinched on the fence again. They separate briefly, but then Markes presses Simpson to the cage. They wrestle along the fence, Markes landing a short elbow before taking Simpson to the mat, landing in his guard. Markes starts driving elbows into Simpson’s thigh, then attains a half guard/mount, dropping elbows on Simpson’s head. Round 3: Simpson comes out swinging, landing the right hand. Simpson again goes to the uppercut, landing it, although not flush. Markes lands a solid punch combination followed by a low kick. They clinch once again, wrestling up against the cage, switching controlling positions. The referee again separate the fighters, positioning them at the center of the Octagon. Simpson lands a combination. Markes fires back, but his accuracy is slipping away. They clinch up on the fence again, Markes stomping Simpson’s feet and kneeing his thigh. The referee again separates them for a restart. Simpson moves in landing the right hand, but Markes counters with his own punch combination and follows with a knee to the body. Simpson swings and lands a right hand, but slipped down to the mat, Markes taking his back as they stand up. Markes drops for the double-leg and puts Simpson on the mat.
