UFC on FOX 17 Weigh-in Results: dos Anjos vs. Cerrone Fight Set After Several Scale Miscues

The UFC on FOX 17 main event is a battle for the belt. After hitting the mark at Friday’s weigh-in in Orlando, Fla., Rafael dos Anjos is set to make the first defense of his UFC lightweight championship in a rematch with a fighter he’s already beaten, red-hot Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Rafael dos Anjos weigh UFConFOX17_5183There has been a lot of heat leading up to this main event match-up, as Cerrone has made some strong insinuations about dos Anjos and performance-enhancing drugs. Plus, the winner might possibly be the next opponent for Conor McGregor, who just unified the UFC featherweight championship and has an interest in becoming a two-division champion.

Despite all the heat, they shook hands after facing off for photographers.

Overeem has even more riding on the fight, as he reportedly declined re-signing with the UFC in the lead-up, and will instead test the free agent market, win or lose.

A lightweight feature bout almost boiled over in the host hotel, as Michael Johnson and Nate Diaz got into a physical altercation even before the weigh-in. After making weight, they’ll finally get to settle the score in the Octagon.

Danny Castillo, a longtime veteran of the WEC and UFC, stepped on the scale for his lightweight bout with Nik Lentz at 158 pounds. He stepped off briefly, shaking his head, not agreeing with the weight, and stepped back on, but remained at 158 pounds. Clearly baffled, Castillo was given one hour to get down to the 156-pound limit for a non-title lightweight fight.

It’s interesting to note, CB Dollaway weighed in after Castillo, and was initially 187 pounds. He dropped his underwear and made weight at 185.5 pounds.

Following that, Charles Oliveira stepped on the scale at 150.5 pounds for his 145-pound bout, and like Castillo and Dollaway, he was shaking his head in disbelief. Not only were the fighters perplexed, so was UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who seemed to have a stern conversation with the official reading the scale.

Shortly after he stepped off the scale, Castillo checked his weight on the UFC’s backstage scale, and tweeted, “I just checked again. I made weight! The scale is messed up.” He then officially re-weighed and hit the mark at 156 pounds.

Oliveira, however, did not attempt to get down to 146 pounds, and instead opted to forfeit 20-percent of his fight purse to opponent Myles Jury.
