Joanna Jederzejczyk topped Claudia Gadelha with a split decision at UFC on FOX 13 on Saturday in Phoenix.
Despite succuming to a number of takedowns, Jederzejczyk earned the split nod with scores of 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.
“She’s No. 1, I knew it,” Jederzejczyk said, giving thanks to her opponent for the tough fight. “I did my job, she did her job. It’s a fight.”

Gadelha worked tirelessly to secure a takedown in the first round, putting Jederzejczyk on her back early. Once the fight got back to the feet, Gadelha continued to try and bring the fight to the floor, but her opponent landed a clean uppercut towards the end of the round. Gadelha finished the round on her back, defending against hammer fists.
In the second round, Gadelha continued to apply the takedown efforts. Despite getting the fight to the ground for a brief moment, Jederzejczyk was able to work her way back to the feet and keep the fight standing for a majority of the frame.
The third round stopped shortly after it started as an accidental headbutt brought a halt to the action, leaving Gadelha bleeding above the left eye. Upon continuing the fight, Gadelha’s takedown attempts were met with stiff defense and included flurries of punches from both ends, but it was Jederzejczyk that won the judges’ nods.
With the win on Saturday, Jederzejczyk keeps her undefeated record and hands Gadelha her first-career loss. The victory also places Jederzejczyk in a likely position to contend for the UFC strawweight title, which was won by Carla Esparza on Friday evening in the The Ultimate Fighter Finale.
