UFC Issues Statement after Pulling Davey Grant, Reveals New Liverpool Line Up

May 25, 2018

News broke on Thursday that UFC Fight Night 130 slated for Sunday in Liverpool, England, had lost a preliminary bout between home country fighter Davey Grant and undefeated Manny Bermudez.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship made it official on Friday, issuing a statement on pulling Grant from the fight.

“Due to a medical issue involving bantamweight athlete Davey Grant, the scheduled bout against Manny Bermudez has been cancelled,” read the UFC’s statement. “UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Till on Sunday, May 27, will proceed with 11 bouts.”

Davey Grant - TUF 18 Finale weigh-inThough the UFC statement did not reflect the specifics of the medical issue, it was reported by several outlets that Grant was removed after it was discovered that he had a staph infection.

Grant vs. Bermudez was supposed to be part of the UFC Fight Night 130 main card line-up on FS1. With its cancellation, the UFC had to re-shuffle the deck a good bit.

A welterweight bout between Claudio Silva and Nordine Taleb, which was originally going to headline the prelims on FS1, has been elevated, taking Grant vs. Bermudez’s slot as the second bout on the main card.

With the Silva vs. Taleb move, a middleweight bout between Daniel Kelly and Tom Breese is the new featured bout of the prelims, and a women’s bantamweight bout pitting Gina Mazany vs. Lina Lansberg has been moved from the Early Prelims on UFC Fight Pass to the prelims on FS1.

The moves leave Elias Theodorou vs. Trevor Smith as the lone early bout on UFC Fight Pass.

The UFC Fight Night 130 main card still features a pivotal welterweight headliner between hometown hero Darren Till and No. 1 title contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
