The Ultimate Fighting Championship held its fifth event in Germany on Saturday with UFC Fight Night: Arlvoski vs. Barnett. For the first time, the city of Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany, hosted the octagaon.
The event was held at Barclaycard Arena, and 11, 763 spectators were in attendance producing $913,428 in gate receipts. Those in attendance witnessed former heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett go to war in the fight card’s main event. After a back-and-forth opening round that saw both fighters hurt by punches, Barnett ended up submitting Arlvoski in the third via rear-naked choke.
Second-ranked light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson snapped a two-fight losing streak in the co-main event by defeating Jan Blachowicz by unanimous decision. Blachowicz won the striking exchanges, but Gustafsson’s takedown ability and top control on the ground were too much for the Polish up-an-comer. Gustagsson grounded and pounded Blachowicz for nearly the entire second and third rounds.
Fourth-ranked 205-pound contender Ryan Bader rebounded from a loss to Anthony Johnson in his last outing to knockout Ilir Latifi with a well-placed knee in the second round of their main card bout. The win kept Bader solidly in title contention.
UFC Fight Night: Arlvoski vs. Bader featured eight decisions, two knockouts and one submssion finish.
