UFC Fight Night 42 Results: John Dodson TKOs John Moraga, Doctor Stops the Fight

03-John Dodson UFC on Fox 6 weigh 3330John Dodson won his UFC Fight Night 42 main card fight, scoring a technical knockout over John Moraga in the second round in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday night.

Dodson unleashed a series of strikes towards the end of the second frame, and between rounds Moraga was deemed unable to compete by the ringside physician to bring the official stoppage at 5:00 of the round.

“I wanted to put him to sleep for you guys,” Dodson said.

Dodson came in with his typical high-energy quickness, sticking and circling throughout the opening round. After an inadvertent strike by Moraga to the groin, action continued and Dodson kept finding opportunities to land strikes and move out of danger.

In the second round, Moraga landed an overhand right and pressured his opponent against the cage, but was then taken down. After returning to the feet, Dodson landed a knee when attempting a kick, which dropped Moraga. Dodson pursued his fallen opponent to the ground and swarmed on him with various strikes through the end of the round.

Between stanzas, the ringside doctor examined Moraga and deemed him unable to continue due to a large cut across the bridge of the nose, sustained during the knee Dodson landed earlier.

Following the win, Dodson was asked if he felt he had done enough to become the No. 1 contender. In answering the question, the fighter laid out a warning to next week’s UFC 174 headliners, champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger Ali Bagautinov: “I’m coming for you.”

The win on Saturday night improved Dodson’s record to 16-6.
