Bubba McDaniel vs. Brad Tavares
Round 1: Tavares opens with a few leg kicks, quickly leaving tattooing McDaniel’s right thigh. They clinch briefly along the fence, but separate with Tavares landing a couple solid punches. McDniel fires back, but Tavares lands the leg kicks again, and sends McDaniel to the mat, catching him off balance and taking out his leg. Tavares allows him back to his feet,. McDaniel shoots, but Tavares defends, McDaniel having to settle for pressing Tavares up against the fence. In inadvertent groin shot by McDaniel forces a restart. Tavares using a lot of feints to keep McDaniel out of sync. They clinch up along the fence briefly before the round comes to an end. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Tavares
Round 2: McDaniel and Tavares mix it up from the bell, but Tavares is the first one to score, sending McDaniel down to the canvas on his backside. He backs up and forces McDaniel to return to his feet where Tavares has been dominating. But just as Tavares goes at McDaniel, McDaniel fires back and catches Tavares off balance, forcing him to the mat. Tavares pushes him off and quickly brings the fight back to standing. Tavares shoves McDaniel away on their fee and start chopping away at McDaniel’s lead leg again. The pace slows considerably in the latter half of the round. McDaniel clinches Tavares, but Tavares turns the tide and controls the takedown, once again forcing McDaniel to return to his feet, where they end the round in a clinch. Round 3: McDaniel starts things off right, landing on Tavares and buckling his legs. They clinch up momentarily before Tavares starts kicking again, landing a low blow that sends McDaniel to the mat. They exchange a few shots before McDaniel finally scores the big takedown that he’s been working for, landing on top in Tavares’ half guard. This is McDaniel’s chance to capture the momentum and steal the fight, but Tavares is defending well, and even starts working for a Kimura from the bottom. McDaniel slips the Kimura, but Tavares gains his full guard and immediately starts working for a triangle choke. McDaniel passes to half guard, and continues with ground and pound tactics with about 30 seconds left in the round. McDaniel is controlling, but likely needs a finish to win. Tavares is holding him tight, not giving McDaniel any space to work, and the fight comes to an end. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for McDaniel, but the fight 29-28 for Tavares
