UFC Champ Ronda Rousey Makes It Onto Sports Illustrated’s Best of 2012 List

Ronda Rousey - StrikeforceSports Illustrated recently released its 112 best sports moment of 2012, keeping the Ronda Rousey hype train chugging right along.

SI named the former Strikeforce and current UFC women’s bantamweight champion’s rise to stardom as the No. 65 top sports moment of the year.

UFC president Dana White has made no denial about the fact that Rousey is the reason that his promotion has decided to give women’s MMA a shot, and now she’ll have the opportunity to show the world just how good she is. Her move into the Octagon didn’t go unnoticed.

She’s the biggest rising star in women’s mixed martial arts, if not the sport as a whole. Ronda Rousey’s rise has been meteoric. In just nine fights (both professional and amateur) — all first-round victories by arm bar — Rousey has become an MMA sensation. In November, Rousey became the first female fighter to sign with the UFC. She’s scheduled to fight Liz Carmouche in her debut at UFC 157. The fight will not just be the UFC’s first women’s bout, it will also be the first women’s bout to headline a UFC pay-per-view. The UFC is banking heavily on Rousey.
