With UFC 55 still over a month away, the UFC is moving fast to act on the growing popularity of their brand by already petitioning the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a date and venue for their follow-up PPV, UFC 56. According to the NSAC the UFC has requested that UFC 56 be held on November 19th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This will be the UFC’s second show in November with the proposed date of November 5th for The Ultimate Fighter 2 season finale on Spike TV. Although currently the NSAC does not list the TUF 2 finals on their docket, more than likely sometime in September the official date and location for the show will be finalized.

Interestingly enough, the Cox Pavilion (the host of the TUF 1 finale and Ultimate Fight Night) does not have a listing for an official event on November 5th. However the adjacent Thomas & Mack Center (where UFC 43 was held) has booked the 2005 Professional Bull Riders World Finals on that weekend, which could mean that the connected Cox Pavilion may be unavailable to host the TUF 2 season finale and a new venue might have to be found.

If the NSAC approves the UFC’s application for UFC 56, it would be the third Las Vegas based PPV in a row to be held at the MGM Grand. Currently the MGM Grand has hosted the three largest live gates in American MMA history, UFCs 40, 52, and 54. The average paid attendance for each event has come out to 12,444 with an average gross of $2,150,780.00.
