UFC 224: Nunes vs. Pennington marks the promotion’s return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The UFC 224 main event features women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes returning to the Octagon to put her belt on the line against Raquel Pennington.

UFC 224 Nunes vs Penningon live resultsNunes (15-4) hasn’t fought since September of last year, when she defeated Valentina Shevchenko for the second time. After taking a split-decision nod over the Russian, Nunes had been the subject of a potential superfight with featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. That bout failed to materialize.

When Pennington (9-5) finally became available, the UFC 224 headliner came together quickly.

Pennington had been sidelined for the better part of the past year and a half dealing with injuries, surgeries, and rehab. Now that she’s ready to go, she’ll jump back into the deep end of the pool to challenge Nunes.

The UFC 224 co-main event features a pivotal middleweight bout, as Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Kelvin Gastelum battle in hopes of taking a giant step toward a title shot.

The pay-per-view main card kicks off with a battle between two legendary Brazilians, as Vitor Belfort will make his final trip to the Octagon to square off with Lyoto Machida in his retirement fight.
