UFC 168 Medical Suspensions: Anderson Silva and Three Others Potentially Out Six Months

UFC 168 Poster red 478x270As expected, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva leads the list of medical suspensions following UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva which took place on Dec. 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission released the medical suspensions on Monday.

Silva suffered a broken left leg while throwing a leg kick at champion Chris Weidman during the second round of the main event and was transported to a Las Vegas hospital where he underwent immediate surgery. He will be sidelined for six months and has to have his leg cleared by a doctor.

Three other fighters face potential six-month suspensions as well. Heavyweight Josh Barnett was knocked out by Travis Browne in the opening round and has to have a facial fracture cleared by a doctor. Dustin Poirier must have his left shoulder cleared following his first round finish of Diego Brandao, and Manny Gamburyan will need his left knee cleared or face six months on the shelf following his decision loss to Dennis Siver.

UFC 168 Medical Suspensions:

-Anderson Silva must broken left leg cleared by a doctor or have no contest until June 27, 2014.

-Josh Barnett was suspended with no contact until Feb. 26, 2014 and must have facial fracture cleared by a doctor or no contest until June 27, 2014.

-Dustin Poirier was suspended until Jan. 27, 2014 with no contact until Jan. 18. He must have his right shoulder cleared by a doctor of no contest until June 27, 2014.

-Diego Brandao was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 with no contact until Jan. 27.

-Chris Leben was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 for facial lacerations with no contact until Jan. 27.

-Gleison Tibau was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 for facial laceration with no contact until Jan. 27.

-Dennis Siver was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 due to scalp lacerations with no contact until Jan. 27.

– Manny Gamburyan was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 with no contact until Jan. 27. He must also have MRI on his left knee and be cleared by a doctor or no contest until June 28, 2014.

-William Macario must have his right hand x-rayed and cleared by a doctor or no contest until June 28, 2014.

-Bobby Voelker was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 due to facial and scalp lacerations with no contact unitl Jan. 27.

-Estevan Payan was suspended until Feb. 11, 2014 with no contact until Jan. 27.
