Felipe Arantes vs. Milton Vieira
Round 1: They touch gloves and UFC 147 has officially begun. They’re feeling each other out early. Arantes throws a high kick and Vieira rushes in with a flurry. Arantes delivers outside leg kicks to Vieira’s lead leg. Arantes misses with a straight right and Vieira quickly takes him down. Vieira throws and lands a couple of punches while he works to free his leg from Arantes’ half guard. He does and passes into side control. Arantes works his way back to full guard. Vieira works punches to the body and head. He delivers a solid elbow. Vieira passes Arantes’ guard and is in side control. He briefly looks for a d’arce choke but Arantes gets back to full guard. Round 2: Vieira throws a front kick that’s blocked to start the round. Arantes stalks him. He lands a flying knee. Vieira looks for a takedown but doesn’t get it. The crowd is loud with cheers and chants for the first preliminary bout of the evening. Vieira circles on the outside while Arantes stalks him. Arantes delivers a hard inside leg kick. He switches stances and back again. Vieira shoots in for a takedown but Arantes sprawls and fends it off. Arantes lands a stiff jab. Vieira misses with a winging right hand but lands a left. Arantes answers with an outside leg kick and a jab. Vieira lands a wheel kick that staggers Arantes. Vieira moves in and Arantes takes him down. Arantes takes the round 10-9 on MMAWeekly’s scorecard but that kick landing may have stolen the round for Vieira.
Round 3: Vieira’s corner tells him to get the fight to the ground where he has the advantage. Arantes using his jab well. He delivers an outside leg kick to the thigh of Vieira. Arantes throws a high kick and lands a right hand. He moves in and Vieira works for a takedown but Arantes stuffs it. Arantes lands right hands from the top position. Vieira gets to full guard. There’s 90 seconds remaining on the clock. Vieira holds on and the referee stands them up. Arantes lands a spinning back kick to the body. The round ends. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Arantes. The judges will now decide.
The judges score the fight 29-28 for Arantes and 29-28 for Vieira and a 28-28 resulting in a draw.
