Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin
Round 1: Hominick opens up working his jab; Yagin is swinging hard, trying to land the power punch, right from the get go. Hominick lands a few jabs, but Yagin is landing some of those power punches as well. Yagin starts mixing in some leg kicks as well. Hominick is pressing forward, but Yagin is doing a good job landing his punches and chopping at Hominick’s legs. Big right hand from Yagin midway thorugh the round, he follows with a combination that puts Hominick on the mat. Yagin follows him down and unloads from Hominick’s guard. Yagin was bleeding from his cheek earlier in the round, and now he’s got Hominick bleeding around his eyes. They return to their feet. Hominick is recovering, but Yagin is still landing the bigger blows, Hominick just trying to get back into the flow of the fight. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Yagin.
Round 2: Yagin immediately goes back to his power punch and leg kick attack that was successful in round one. Hominick is trying to get his jab going again, but Yagin is chopping away with the leg kicks again. Yagin misses with a spinning hook kick, Hominick stepping in with his jab, trying to open Yagin up. But Yagin fires back with a left-right combination that puts Hominick on his back again. Yagin drops into Hominick’s guard and swings away. Hominick goes for wrist control, but Yagin backs out and stands the fight up. Hominick is landing his jab, but Yagin is still landing with power, although he just misses with a spinning backfist. Hominick lands a body shot and follows with a combination to the head, but Yagin comes back with power-punch combinations, trying to take Hominick’s head off. Hominick starts to get into a little better rhythm near the end of the round, but Yagin lands a couple more power punches before the horn. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Yagin.
Round 3: Hominick’s face is swelling up, but Yagin keeps coming, landing more and more heavy punches, mixing in leg kicks. Hominick is again firing back, but still not landing with the power that Yagin is. Yagin drops Hominick to one knee, but he’s right back up and starts getting his straight right to hit home, snapping Yagin’s head back and then working to the body. Yagin comes back with more leg kicks, but Hominick continues firing off the jab, bloodying Yagin’s face. Hominick comes in, but Yagin rocks him again with the big right hand. Hominick answers with a solid left hand to the body. Yagin answers more power punches, neither fighter relenting. Hominick rocks Yagin with a big left-right combination that staggers him with little more than a minute left. Yagin doesn’t go down, however, and keeps firing back. Hominick is stepping up the pace, continuing to mount punch after punch, yet Yagin keeps swinging for the fences to the final horn.
