John Makdessi vs. Anthony Njokuani
Round 1: Both fighters come out kicking, Njokuani the first to land with a left kick to the body. Makdessi is stalking Njokuani, but Njokuani is the one landing leg kicks, even as he’s scooting away. Makdessi is having a tough time overcoming Njokuani’s reach advantage. Njokuani lands a two-punch followed by a kick combination, but eats a counterpunch from Makdessi as he launches a knee. Njokuani however stuns Makdessi briefly, but Makdessi recovers before Njokuani can do any further damage. Makdessi moves in, but eats a kick to the face, although it wasn’t full impact. Njokuani follows with a solid kick to the body, 30 seconds left in the round. Njokuani misses with a head kick, but Makessi is unable to take advantage. Round 2: Makdessi comes out firing lead-leg side kicks, trying to get every bit of reach he can muster, but still isn’t able to land it, although he does have Njokuani backing up. Njokuani is repeatedly going to the body with kicks, though most are being blocked by Makdessi’s forearms. Njokuani moves in, but eats a solid combination from Makdessi, recovers and fires a couple solid leg kicks, which are taking their toll on Makdessi’s lead leg. Makdessi keeps pressing forward, but is still eating body and leg kicks as he moves in, landing little offense of his own. Njokuani catches a Makdessi kick and rushes him across the cage, landing a couple punches, but not the knockout blow that he’s been searching for. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Njokuani
Round 3: Makdessi continues pressing forward, Njokuani again picking apart his lead leg with kicks. Makdessi is mixing in his own leg kicks as he moves in, but isn’t mounting the same damage that Njokuani is. Njokuani lands a body kick and follows with a hard punch to the head, but Makdessi keeps pressing forward. Njokuani now throwing kicks from both sides, going body and leg, switching it up at will. Makdessi, however, continues to press on, although he can’t get inside Njokuani’s range long enough to mount much damage, while Njokuani continues to mix it up with his kicks and land with his jab.
