UFC 138 Results: Barao Spoils Pickett’s Debut

November 5, 2011

Renan Barao finished Brad PIckett in the first round of their UFC 138 co-main event.

Barao swarmed his opponent’s back and submitted Pickett in the final minute of the first round.

Both fighters came out swinging with Pickett taking more of the punishment early. Another flurry had Barao getting caught with a punch once. Pickett stuffed a takedown attempt by his opponent and missed with a wild right hand just after.

Later, Barao landed a knee that stunned his opposition. Pickett looked rocked and ate a few more punches before Barao gave chase and took his back. Barao worked to get in the choke and finished the fight on the ground with a rear-naked choke.

The ending came at 4:09 of the opening round.

“When I hit the knee, I knew that I could put my combinations on [him],” Barao said after the finish. “I jumped to his back the way that I love to do and [submitted] him.”

Barao continues to impress, improving his record to 27-1 (1 NC) overall and 2-0 in the UFC. Unsuccessful in his UFC debut, Pickett drops to 20-6 and is 1-2 in his last three fights.
