Phil De Fries vs. Rob Broughton
Round 1: De Fries immediately shoots, but Broughton has no trouble defending. They end up clinched with Broughton’s back to the cage for a time before referee Dan Mirgliotta separates them. They clinch again, but this time De Fries is able to pick Broughton’s ankle and put him on his back and starts working from side control. Broughton gets to all fours, but De Fries outwrestles him and returns him to his back. De Fries passes from guard to side control, but Broughton goes to all-fours again. Round 2: They trade a couple punches before De Fries scores a double-leg takedown. De Fries quickly moves to side control then to Broughton’s back. Boughton keeps moving, trying to find a way out, but De Fries out scrambles Broughton at every move and takes his back again. Broughton gets the fence and works up to his feet, only to be immediately put back down on the mat. Broughton quickly secures a Kimura to reverse position. On top in half guard, Broughton starts dropping heavy shoulder punches and ground and pound on De Fries. De Fries locks a Kimura onto Broughton’s left arm, but pounds away with punches and elbows to De Fries’ ribs and thigh. Broughton escapes the Kimura and tangles De Fries’ left arm in his legs, dropping left hands and elbows on his head until the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Broughton
Round 3: De Fries opens with a solid jab, setting up a double-leg takedown. He quickly moves to side control, punching and dropping short elbows. Broughton gives up his back and De Fries takes it briefly before moving back to side control. Broughton keeps trying to find a way out, but De Fries is all over him, pot shotting Broughton as they go. De Fries gains full mount with less than two minutes left in the round.
