The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Thursday used its weekly Ultimate Insider Web show to make official the recently reported headline bout for UFC 129, the promotion’s debut in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, as expected, will defend his belt for the second straight time on home soil, when he faces former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields on April 30 at the Rogers Centre.
St-Pierre is fresh off of a win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 124 in Montreal. Shields enters the bout after his Octagon debut, where he defeated Martin Kampmann.
UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields, will also feature a light heavyweight bout between UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and former 205-pound champion Lyoto Machida.
