UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort Weigh-In Results

Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort melee at UFC 126If staredowns equaled quality fights, UFC 126 is already a winner.

At the weigh-ins for the card taking place in Las Vegas on Saturday night, middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Vitor Belfort had to be separated as they jawed at one another and got nose to nose just 24-hours away from their clash.

Both fighters weighed in perfectly at 185lbs, and while Belfort stood and waited, Silva stepped off the scale and put a plain white mask on and immediately got right in his opponent’s face. Silva then lifted the mask and started talking to Belfort, to which he responded, and several officials had to get between the combatants to separate them.

“I know him, he’s a good man, but in the fight he’s trying to impress and put the fighters in fear of him. So I’m going to bring the fight tomorrow, that’s what he wants, and that’s what’s going to happen,” Belfort stated following the heated weigh-in. “I’ll be ready tomorrow.”

The champion was greeted with a chorus of boos from the Las Vegas crowd as he took to the microphone.

“There’s no secret what I said. You guys came here to watch a show, Vitor talks a lot, and that’s you’re going to see is a show,” Silva said with confidence through manager Ed Soares.

Former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Ryan Bader made his presence known at the UFC 126 weigh-ins as well, getting right in the face of his opponent Jon Jones staring through him like he was a man on a mission. Jones meanwhile continued to simply look away and never made eye contact with his opponent.

The only hiccup during the weigh-ins was welterweight Mike Pierce who weighed in at 172lbs and even after shedding all his clothing was unable to make the required weight. He will be given some time to see if he can cut the additional pound, and if not he will likely be fined a percentage of his purse for the infraction.
