Jake Ellenberger wanted to fight Jon Fitch at UFC 126, but Carlos Eduardo Rocha stepped in to face him instead and brought the fight to him coming up just short losing by split decision.

Much more experienced, Ellenberger was a heavy favorite going into UFC 126, and he may not have known what exactly to expect from his opponent, but he found out in a quick way in the first round.

Rocha got the fight to the ground and came razor close to several submissions, pushing Ellenberger to the bring and clearly taking the first round on the score cards.

It appeared Ellenberger figured out real quick that Rocha was for real, and he didn’t waste any time in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to show off his skills as well.

As Rocha started to slow a bit, Ellenberger blasted the Brazilian with a slick mix of punches on the feet and ground control. While the third round didn’t bring a high level excitement, Ellenberger put on a workman’s like performance to make sure to sway the judges to his side.

Two of the judges saw the fight the same way giving Ellenberger the win, while a third judge gave a puzzling 30-27 score to Rocha.

With two wins in a row now the UFC, Ellenberger shows that he can hang with anyone in the welterweight division and if he was underrated before UFC 126, he let everyone know that he has arrived and any fighter at 170lbs has to watch out.
