The Ultimate Fighting Championship, much to the excitement of company president Dana White, is finally making its way to Beantown for a show at the TD Garden.

A UFC lightweight championship rematch between current champion Frankie Edgar and the man he defeated for the belt, B.J. Penn, heads the card.

Edgar, weighing in at 154 pounds, as did Penn, said only, “I’m excited man. We’re in Boston, a great fight town. Can’t weight for it.”

Penn had even less to say. “The fight’s gonna be good.”

A fight that might steal the thunder of the title bout is a showdown between UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and boxing champion James Toney, who is making his mixed martial arts debut.

Toney stepped on the scale at 237 pounds, a good fight weight for him. Couture, decked out with a necklace and in blue jeans, weighed in at 220 pounds.

Toney has jawed a lot leading up to this bout, but had little to say after weighing in, other than, “I can’t wait till tomorrow night. I’m the best and I’m gonna prove it.”

Couture had a huge grin on his face, saying, “I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun tomorrow. I look forward to welcoming James Toney the mixed martial artist.”

Besides the title fight between Edgar and Penn, a lightweight battle between Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard is also featured in Boston. White has already declared that the winner gets a shot at whoever holds the title after Saturday night.

Florian and Maynard both weighed in at 156 pounds.

On a funny side note, Gabe Ruediger came bearing a gift for his opponent, Joe Lauzon. He presented Lauzon with a cake that read “Sorry for your loss.”
