Tyron Woodley Responds to Colby Covington’s UFC 225 Comments

June 10, 2018

Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since defending his belt against Demian Maia at UFC 217 in July 2017. While absent from competition, the fight promotion crowned an interim 170-pound champion on Saturday at UFC 225 in Chicago.

Woodley’s former training partner Colby Covington defeated former lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision to capture the interim belt and went after Woodley in his post-fight interview with commentator Joe Rogan.

“Tyron Woodley, you’re a friggin’ coward. Why did you let this little, filthy animal take this ass whooping tonight? It was supposed to be you,” said Covington after defeated dos Anjos. “You can’t run. You can’t hide anymore, Tyron Woodley. I’m coming for you. Like I said, this is the real championship belt.  Tyron Woodley, if you’ve got something to say, come see me bitch!

“Tyron Woodley knows that the last time we trained I melted him. He was done after two rounds. The same thing will happen when I unify my belt,” added Covington.

Following the event, Woodley responded to Covington’s comments via Twitter. “Bitch Please! I let you bump your gums. Now you got smoke! I’m exposing you. You were and always will be my warm-up round! #UFC187,” wrote Woodley.

The two were training partners at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. until Woodley changed his training camp to Roufus Sport in Milwaukee.  Woodley still owns and operates an ATT affiliate gym in St. Louis.  If Covington has his way, he’ll face Woodley in a title unification bout at UFC 230 on Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
