The match between Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz was 17 years in the making and it absolutely lived up to everyone’s expectations. After a brief hiccup during fight week in regards to the weight division, the fight was on and both men showed up.
Unfortunately, the first few minutes of the fight weren’t all that pretty and Diaz looked pretty sloppy.
Thankfully, he was able to turn things around and we got the slugfest we had all expected.
But by the third round, Diaz had all he could handle and after dropping to the canvas after a slick right hook from Lawler, he refused to get up and the fight was called.
But everyone had crazy respect for both fighters.
Diaz was returning to the Octagon after a nearly seven-year layoff and many fans had wondered how ring rust might play a part in his performance. Lawler, on the other hand, was riding a four-fight losing streak and had hoped to get back in the win column for the first time since 2017.
