December 5, 2012

TUF The Smashes Episode 12 saw both teams plan their tactics for the final fight of the competition between Colin Fletcher (UK) and Richie Vaculik (AUS).

With a big height difference between the two fighters, Fletcher worked on his head kicks with the smaller UK coach in preparation for Vaculik. Vaculik sparred with Australian welterweight Ben Alloway and worked on his speed and ground game.

With the end of the competition nearing each team signed a training singlet as a memento from the experience and talked about how hard the journey has been.

At the official weigh-in, Richie Vaculik weighed in at 150.5 pounds, while Fletcher tipped the scales at 156 pounds.

Colin Fletcher (UK) vs. Richie Vaculik (AUS):

Round 1- Fletcher used his reach advantage early, as Vaculik looked to move in and out on his opponent. Vaculik targeted the legs of Fletcher, who unloaded with his kicks from a distance. Fletcher worked the head kicks with some success before switching it up with kicks to the body. Fletcher stalked Vaculik around the cage and kept his distance with kicks before pushing Vaculik to the mat in the closing seconds and landing ground strikes. 10-9 Fletcher.

Round 2- Vaculik landed a flush shot, hurting Fletcher in the opening moments. Vaculik went to catch a leg kick off Fletcher, but ate a shot coming in before Vaculik shot in and got the takedown. Vaculik moved to side control, but Fletcher took Vaculik’s back, who verbally submitted after injuring his elbow.
