TUF ‘The Smashes’ Episode 11 Recap: Welterweight Final is Set After a Strong Finish

TUF The Smashes Episode 11 saw two Australian welterweight’s pitted together to earn a spot in the welterweight finals at UFC on FX 6.

A coin toss was done to choose which Australian fighter warmed up in which room, with Robert Whittaker choosing to stay in the Aussie room after winning the toss. Coach George Sotiropoulos also came up with the idea of each Robert and Xavier choose three teammates to have in their corner for the fight.

Australian fighter Ben Wall had a challenge with the Australian coaching staff that if his weight went over 186 pounds they could shave one of his eye brows off. Wall finally gave in to the temptation of food and at the next training session he was overweight and the shaver came out.

At the official weigh-in, Robert Whittaker and Xavier Lucas both weighed in at 170.5 pounds.

Round 1 – After an even start with  both fighters trading strikes, Whittaker caught Lucas coming in and was quick to pounce with ground and pound, leaving the referee with no option but to stop the fight.

“I’m very happy and excited that I’ve made it to the finale,” Whittaker said. “My goal was to finish early and finish quick.”

“Rob is ready for the UFC,” Sotiropoulos said. “He’s knocked out two guys in spectacular fashion.”

The win books Whitakker a place in the welterweight finale at UFC on FX 6 where he will take on Team UK’s Bradley Scott.
