TUF Live Finale Results: Charles Oliveira Impresses With 2nd Win at Featherweight

Posted on by Damon Martin

Changing weight classes happens all the time in MMA, but there are always varied results with successes and failures.

Well, through two fights at 145lbs it appears Charles Oliveira’s decision to drop down out of the lightweight division was a good idea.

The Brazilian was successful in his first bid at featherweight when he submitted Eric Wisely back at UFC on Fox 2 in January, but he had a much stiffer test ahead of him at the Ultimate Fighter Live finale when he faced season 12 winner Jonathan Brookins.

What resulted was an exciting scrap between two tough featherweight competitors.

Oliveira set the pace with his striking throughout the first five minutes of the fight, tagging Brookins with quick punches that landed straight to the face.

Not to be deterred, Brookins came back and blasted Oliveira with some punches of his own, trying to even things up on the feet.

The fight saw the ground a bit more in the 2nd round as Oliveira shot in on Brookins and ended up on the wrong end of a guillotine choke from the former TUF champion. Eventually, the young Brazilian slipped out and started to work his own ground and pound attack.

As Brookins tried to wiggle away from the damaging blows, Oliveira saw an opening and grabbed his opponent’s neck for a guillotine choke of his own. Oliveira fell back into his guard with the choke locked up tight and Brookins had no choice but to tap.

Now 2-0 at 145lbs, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira, whose nickname means ‘kid from the ghetto’ in Portugeuse, certainly is becoming a welcome addition to the featherweight division.

“This is my house, this is my family, I love it here,” Oliveira said. “145lbs is my division and I want to go step by step to get my belt.”
He may have once been called a kid from the ghetto but Oliveira will surely have some big paydays ahead of him as he seems to be a legitimate contender in the expanding UFC featherweight division.
