The time for talk is over. UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva plans to let his performance in the UFC 117 main event speak for itself.

His opponent, Chael Sonnen, has talked a good game leading up to Saturday’s showdown, but Silva didn’t pay it any mind and stayed focused on the task at hand, defeating Sonnen in a fight, not on the mic.

“I want to go in there and do my job,” said the widely regarded top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. “Everyone has their own way of promoting a fight. This is the way that Chael is choosing to promote the fight, and that’s his choice. On Aug. 7, I have a job to do and that’s what I’m going to do, do my job. Not mess around and talk a bunch of crap about people.

“I’m going to go out there and I’m going to be focused and I’m going to try to finish the fight as quickly as I can and that’s what people are paying to watch. People aren’t paying to watch people talk (expletive) to each other back and forth. They’re paying to watch people fight.”

Sonnen has said a lot of things and made a lot of claims in the build-up for the eventual match with Silva. He’s stated he has never been out-struck on his feet in a fight and can go toe-to-toe with Silva, who is possibly the best striker the sport has seen thus far.

Silva literally laughed at the notion of Sonnen out-striking him and feels the only way Sonnen can win is to get the fight to the ground.

“In my opinion Chael’s only chance to finish the fight is to get the takedown. That’s my opinion,” Silva told MMAWeekly.com.

Sonnen’s wrestling pedigree is likely his biggest asset heading into the match-up with Silva, but Silva feels he’s prepared for anything.

“I’m an MMA fighter. You’ve got to be prepared to fight on your feet, on your back, on your head, wherever you may land you have to be prepared to fight. And that’s exactly what I am. I’m prepared to fight where ever the fight goes,” stated the Brazilian.

“As far as wrestling, I didn’t have a problem with Dan Henderson (Sonnen’s training partner) and he’s one of the best wrestlers around.

“Chael’s a very good wrestler, but I’ve trained a long, long time. I’m not the best wrestler,” admitted Silva.

“I’ve watched Chael’s fights. He’s good in wrestling. I’m good for the fight. I’m no good for wrestling, but this is MMA. It’s different.”
