The Juggernaut is Coming: Luke Jumeau Targets Legend FC Welterweight Championship

April 26, 2013

Luke JumeauAfter winning three fights in a row to start his career, Australian welterweight prospect Luke “The Juggernaut” Jumeau suffered his first loss ever against Jacques Marsters to start off last year.

The loss, however, served to teach Jumeau a valuable lesson going forward.

“In that fight was my first attempt at cutting a large amount of weight, with a lack of knowledge this led to me not being able to recover from six hours in the sauna,” he said. “I had practically cooked myself and was unable to perform in the fight.”

Jumeau was able to rebound and defeat Alex Niu in his Legend FC debut in August, using what he’d learned from the loss to Marsters.

“As for the fight against Alex my knowledge of cutting weight had changed for the better and allowed me to perform as I usually would,” he said.

Jumeau did well enough against Niu for Legend to reward him with a welterweight title shot against Jingliang Li on April 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For Jumeau, getting a title shot drives him more than adds pressure to him heading into the fight.

“It’s more exciting and motivating,” he said. “It’s every fighter’s dream to become a champion and to have a chance at the belt.”

Jumeau told that getting an opportunity to fight as part of Legend FC’s Malaysian debut and have new eyes on him adds to the excitement of facing Li on April 27.

“I’m going over to win and represent myself and my country, that’s the most important thing to me,” he said. “I always fight hard and honor my opponent and the fans that cheer for me, so it’s exciting to fight in a new place and maybe gain a new set of fans.”

Going forward, for Jumeau, the only thing he sees is the championship, and come what may after that.

“My goals are to win the Legend FC welterweight championship and each fight as it comes, you can only take one step at a time,” he said.

“Legend’s viewers and fans be ready for war! The Juggernaut is coming!”
