by MMAWeekly.com Staff A middleweight bout between UFC veteran Matt Lindland and rising talent Luke Rockhold has been nixed from the Oct. 9 Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Strikeforce on Wednesday revealed that Rockhold sustained a shoulder injury during training and would be unable to compete. The full extent of the injury was not yet known.

The promotion replaced that bout with a welterweight match-up pitting undefeated Tryon Woodley against Brazilian Andre Galvao on the Showtime televised card.

“The fight between Tyron and Andre is a great matchup between two young fighters looking to take their careers to the next level,” said STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker. “We wish Luke a speedy recovery and are confident he will soon enough rejoin our growing crop of top prospects.”

Woodley and Galvao are two of the hotter prospects in Strikeforce’s 170-pound class. Woodley has run his record to a perfect 8-0, most recently defeating Nathan Coy at Strikeforce Challengers 8. Galvao’s win over Jorge Patino at the recent Strikeforce: Houston elevated his professional record to 5-1.

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz will defend against K.J. Noons in the Oct. 9 main event. Sarah Kaufman, Strikeforce’s women’s welterweight champion, faces Marloes Coenen in the co-feature.
