Round 1: Burrell opens with a sharp jab. Ray is trying to get the leg kicks going. Burell scores a solid takedown, landing in half-guard, but is quickly put into Ray’s full guard. Ray goes for an armbar, but can’t lock it out. Burrell is standing in guard, drops a couple hammerfists, but then drops down into half guard. Ray attempts a Kimura on Ray’s right arm, transitions to an armber, but Burrell slips out. Burrell quickly moves back into half guard. Ray goes for another armber, but just misses locking it out. Ray gets back to his feet, Burrell presses him to the cage, but Ray again goes for a Kimura, this time on Burrell’s left arm. They hit the mat and Burrell gets out of the Kimura, but gets put in another armbar attempt, escaping with about 30 seconds left. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Ray.
Round 2: Burrell opens with another solid takedown, but immediately gets put in a Kimura again, but quickly escapes. Burrell starts working from side control, but Ray gets out and back to his feet, this time taking Burrell down. Burrell does a good job reversing position and working from side control on top. Burrell isn’t doing a lot of damage, but is controlling position and staying away from submission attempts this round, landing some ground and pound. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Burrell.
Round 3: Burrell looking sharp with his boxing, landing a solid uppercut, followed by a one-two combination. Burrell continues attacking on the feet for a time, they hit the mat briefly, but are right back up, Burrell pressing Ray into the cage. Burrell puts Ray on his back again, landing in half guard and dropping some heavy punches and a forearm that opens up a cut around Ray’s eye. They get back to their feet and Burrell lands another hard shot just before the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 and the fight 29-28 for Burrell.
