BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Duane “Bang” Ludwig vs. Sammy Morgan and Frank Trigg vs. Falaniko Vitale head Friday night’s Strikeforce “Payback” event as the promotion makes its Rocky Mountain debut at the Broomfield Events Center.

Main Card (Professional Bouts)

-Duane “Bang” Ludwig vs. Sammy Morgan
R1 – Opening with an exchange of kicks, Ludwig lands a brutal shin across Morgan’s ribs before they clinch and Morgan takes Ludwig down. They quickly return to their feet where they trade rock-solid punches. Clinched on the fence, Ludwig sweeps the leg from under Morgan and lands in his guard. Again the make a quick return to the feet where Ludwig lands a thunderous left hook to the body and a right to the head that causes Morgan to go down. Ludwig quickly follows and unleashes a measure attack of punches that finishes off the Ultimate Fighter veteran.

-Frank Trigg vs. Falaniko Vitale
R1 – Trigg works his way into a clinch and starts firing away with knees to the body, but one of them ends up south of the border and the ref calls for a break to let Vitale recover. Trigg lands a couple hard lefts to the head follows with a strong body kick and unleashes a flurry of unaccounted for punches before Vitale is able to clinch. Vitale scores a leg trip, but they pop right back up and clinch. They separate and Trigg lands another strong punch-knee combination, but Vitale fires back. Trigg then stuns him with a couple hard punches and starts kneeing to the body again. They finish out the round with a few brief exchanges and clinches.

R2 – Vitale scores right away with a straight right hand to the chin. Trigg fires back with a couple strong leg kicks before they clinch and Trigg starts kneeing. The action slows and the ref separates them. Trigg immediately starts to jab, lands a huge knee to the chin of Vitale and starts an onslaught of punches, elbows and knees, thoroughly dominating Vitale. Trigg backs Vitale to the cage, they separate and Vitale lands a rib smacking knee and follows with a punch combination to the body, but Trigg recovers and they start firing back and forth.

R3 – Trigg distracts Vitale with a flurry of combinations then drops down and takes the Hawaiian to the mat. Up against the cage, Vitale works back to the feet, they continue to clinch and Vitale scores with knees to the body. They separate and start moving around as Vitale scores with a right hook to the jaw, but they move back to the center trading blows. Once again they clinch up along the cage and Vitale takes Trigg to the mat, if only briefly, before they pop back up against the cage. Separating and trading blows, Trigg again scores a double-leg takedown, finishing the round in Vitale’s guard.

-Pete Spratt vs. Donnie Liles
R1 – After a feeling out period, Spratt lands successive left hands, but Liles fires back with a solid kick to the body. They clinch along the fence and Liles takes a low blow, dropping to his knees. They restart and continue to dance around the center of the cage. Lies rocks Spratt with a punch combination and rushes him to the amt, but they quickly regain their feet and Spratt scores with a couple of punches. Liles fires away, backing Spratt to the fence, but Spratt spins Liles and puts his back on the cage. Spratt scores a takedown as the round closes.

R2 – They clinch as the round starts and Liles jumps guard. They work back up to the feet and Spratt starts scoring again with his punches. Spratt lands a stinging leg kick. A short time later, he follows up with a combination of punches and kicks that seems to hurt Liles a bit. Spratt ups the pace and starts scoring with various combinations before Liles clinches to stop the attack. Spratt lands a right hook and follows with a couple body shots, but Liles comes back with a double-leg takedown, quickly moving to mount. Spratt gives up his back, but Liles can’t find the choke before the round ends.

R3 – Liles scores a quick double-leg takedown, but Spratt pops right back up. Liles again secures the double-leg and moves to mount. Spratt gives up his back and Liles secures the rear naked choke for the win.

Donnie Liles def. Pete Spratt by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:59, R3

-Billy Evangelista vs. Luke Caudillo
R1 – After eating a couple of knees from the Thai clinch, Caudillo dropped Evangelista with a left hand. He couldn’t finish him on the ground, and rocked him again upon standing, this time with a right cross. Somehow Evangelista recovers and they return to the center of the ring. After trading a few shots, Evangelista catches a kick from Caudillo and dumps him, but Caudillo pops right back up. Caudillo eats a knee to the belly, a push kick and some punches as he drops to all fours on the mat. Evangelista takes his back and pounds away until the round ends.

R2 – Evangelista opens round two with a head turning right cross, but gets taken down for his efforts. They immediately return to the feet. Evangelista starts to edge ahead with more accurate strikes and punch-kick combinations. The rest of the round plays out much the same with Evangelista picking his shots, but not doing much damage.

R3 – Evangelista starts picking his shots again, then shoots and scores with the double-leg. In Caudillo’s guard, Evangelista starts a ground and pound assault. The pace slows, although Evangelista was still punching, but the referee stands them up. Caudillo tries to get something going, but Evangelista is picking him apart with his jab. They end in a flurry, but it appears to be Evangelista’s fight.

-Carlos Zevallos vs. Andre Walker
R1 – After trading a couple of shots, Walker dropped Zevallos with a left hook. He ground and pounded him, but Zevallos got back to his feet, eating more shots that left him floating around the ring. Walker doggedly pursued and landed more hard shots, but tired as he was he couldn’t put Zevallos away. The action leveling off, they clinched and traded knees to the body for a time before Zevallos took Walker to the canvas, landing in side control. Zevallos moved to mount and dropped down blows until referee Tim Mills called a stop to the fight.

-Michelle Waterson vs. Tyra Parker
R1 – Parker starts off swinging for the fences. Waterson stays calm and picks her shots, landing some hard straight punches to the face before clinching and landing knees to the body. Waterson moves behind Parker, drags her to the mat, and secures a rear naked choke for the win.

-Tyler Toner vs. Ricky Johnson
R1 – Johnson opens with a couple leg kicks, but eats a shin to the face from Toner. Following a solid right cross by Toner, they clinch and Toner starts to chip away with knees to the body. Toner starts to take control as he is landing heavy leg kicks and trading punches. Johnson, bleeding profusely from the nose, eats another solid shin to the face. Stunned, Johnson continually backs away as Toner stalks him, looking to finish the fight, but Johnson catches a Toner kick and dumps him on his back. Toner works up and to side control, but the round ends.

R2 –Johnson opens strong, catching a Toner knee, holding it while he lands some solid rights to the face of Toner. They separate and Toner lands a solid body kick that has Johnson staggering. Toner lands a couple knees from the clinch and tosses Johnson to the canvas, dropping bombs as he drops into Johnson’s guard. Toner stands up and drops in with more heavy punches, quickly moves to mount and rains down numerous hard punches before referee Jerome Locke stops the bout.

-Lumumba Sawyers vs. Drew Dober
R1 – The fight opens with a brief exchange, then Dober drops Sawyers with a huge overhand left that leaves Sawyers out cold, face first on the mat.

-Jordan Goodwin vs. Alan Gomez
R1 – Goodwin lands a solid leg kick and immediately takes Gomez to the mat. Gomez fires back with a strong guillotine attempt, which Goodwin patiently works his way out of. Goodwin starts to ground and pound from Gomez’s guard and remains that way until the end of the round.

R2 – Goodwin opens with a strong overhand right. They clinch and Gomez tries to land knees to the body, but Goodwin fires back with short punches to the body. Gomez starts to fire back, but Goodwin immediately shoots the double-leg for the takedown, landing in Gomez’s guard, again starting to ground and pound. The fight is stood up after Goodwin is warned for throwing and elbow in an amateur bout. They immediately start an exchange with Goodwin landing the heavier shots, until Gomez catches him with a left, stunning Goodwin and finishing the round on top, dropping bombs as the round ends.

R3 – Gomez again catches Goodwin with a stinging punch to open the round and nearly secures a guillotine as Goodwin drops to his knee. Gomez falls into his guard and starts to ground and pound as Goodwin searches for a submission. They are stood up after a stall in the action. They clinch and Goodwin falls to his back attempting a takedown. The round ends with Gomez on top in guard.

-Jeremy Malaterre vs. Eric Galvan
R1 – The fighters trade punches for the first minute before clinching. They exchange a couple of knees to the body, Galvan landing the better of the two. Galvan lands a head kick with 10 seconds left to eke out the round.

R2 – Galvan opens with a solid leg kick and follows with a couple more as the round wears on. Malaterre tries to get in with his jab, but has a difficult time landing anything solid. They clinch and then Galvan lands with a straight right and a leg kick on the break. A brief exchange ensues just before the bell sounds.

R3 – They start to mix it up more as the third round starts with Galvan edging ahead with his striking, then Malaterre landing both with punches and a kick to the head. They clinch and exchange knees before Galvan sweeps Malaterre to the mat, landing in side control working for a Kimura. Malaterre works out and up and lands a knee and forearm combination before starting to land punch combinations.

-Brett Tillis vs. Turrell Galloway
R1 – Following a brief scramble, Galloway takes Tillis’ back, starting to ground and pound before locking on a fight ending rear naked choke.

-Aaron Trujillo vs. Haven Torres
R1 – Trujillo quickly gets the fight to the mat and starts working from side control for a Kimura. Torres defends well, but Trujillo slips up into mount and starts dropping down bombs until the referee steps in and stops the bout just before the bell sounds.
