Strikeforce is just over a week away from their 135lb women’s tournament that will determine a new top contender for a shot at the winner of an upcoming fight between champion Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen.

On Tuesday, the promotion announced a reserve bout pitting Colleen Schneider against Liz Carmouche. If any of the women fighting in the tournament are unable to continue into the finals, the winner of the fight between Schneider and Carmouche will step in.

The 135lb women’s tournament will be a one night affair with participants Miesha Tate, Hitomi Akano, Carina Damm, and Maiju Kujala, weighing in on August 12, and then a random draw will determine the first round fights.

The bouts will be three rounds with each round being three minutes in duration.

The winner of the tournament will get a guaranteed shot down the road at the 135lb women’s title, but as previously mentioned Strikeforce has already named Marloes Coenen as the current top contender and she will get the next shot at Sarah Kaufman at a later date.

The final fight in the women’s tournament will take place just before the main event fight with Joe Riggs taking on Louis Taylor in a 182lb catchweight bout.
