In one of the most anticipated title fights for the upcoming Bellator shows, undefeated featherweight champion Joe Soto will defend his 145lb belt against season 2 tournament winner Joe Warren on September 2 in San Antonio, TX.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight, who indicated the fighters have been confirmed for that date and location as well.

Rocketing to stardom with his run through the first season of Bellator, Joe Soto (9-0) burst onto the scene with wins over Ben Greer, Yahir Reyes, and original tournament favorite Wilson Reis. Since winning the Bellator title, Soto has won two additional fights including his most recent, a victory over UFC veteran Diego Saraiva in May.

A wrestler and submission specialist, Soto trains out of the Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance with several top competitors including new UFC signee David Mitchell.

Trying to take away Soto’s title in his first official defense will be 2012 Olympic hopeful Joe Warren.

A tough-as-nails wrestler, Joe Warren has said from day one entering the world of mixed martial arts that he wanted to be a champion. Warren fell short in his first bid in the Dream featherweight tournament, but not before taking out previously top ranked fighter Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto along the way.

Warren came to Bellator in 2010 with the same mission, and showed toughness and tenacity to battle through some very tough situations to win all three tournament bouts before getting a crack at Soto.

The two featherweights will battle it out on September 2 during one of the Bellator Fighting Championship season 3 shows that will also kick off a bantamweight, heavyweight and women’s tournament as well.
