Singaporean Teenager Benedict Ang Draws Yohan Legowo at ONE: Pride of Lions

November 8, 2015

Three more match-ups were recently added to the ONE: Pride of Lions card. The most intriguing announcement sees Singaporean teenager Benedict Ang thrown in with seasoned Indonesian featherweight Yohan Legowo.

Ang (1-0) made his pro debut in May after going undefeated in his amateur career. He is, however, taking a huge step up against Legowo (7-3), who has been fighting since 2002, is a BJJ purple belt, and has been in with the likes of Ev Ting, Nam Jin Jo, and Fransino Tirta.

ONE: Pride of Lions is set for the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Nov. 13 and Ang vs. Legowo is one of several featherweight match-ups on the card. It will be an interesting night for the 145-pound division with a total of ten different fighters in action.

Looking to work his way back into contention for a second title shot is Australia’s Martin Nguyen (4-1). He was initially slated to face Bashir Ahmed at last month’s ONE: Odyssey of Champions show, but found himself bumped up to main event status after a last-minute reshuffle.

Nguyen took on undefeated Russian Marat Gafurov in Jakarta, but was submitted in the first round, the sole loss of his career to date. The Australian will have the opportunity to get his career back on track when he faces Filipino featherweight Edward Kelly (6-2) in Singapore.

Another of the featherweight match-ups recently revealed pits China’s Li Kai Wen (3-2) against Hong Kong’s Nathan Ng (1-0). The former recently turned 20 and won the ONE Championship Beijing 145-pound tournament last year, while the latter is a purple belt under Eddie Bravo at the 10th Planet Academy.

There will be two title fights on the card with 170-pound champion Ben Askren rematching Luis Santos in the headline attraction and 115-pound king Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke facing Yago Bryan in the co-main event. The show will be broadcast live in Asia by Fox Sports and the first four fights will all be available to view via the ONE Championship Facebook page.
