The main event for UFC 97, which is currently slated to take place in Montreal, Canada, is set, as defending UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against fellow Brazilian Thales Leites on April 18.

“I’m very happy, this is the fight of my life, and I will training hard every single day,” Leites told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday in an exclusive interview. “Anderson is an amazing fighter and champion. Thanks UFC for this opportunity, I will do my best.”

The bout agreements for the fight have been signed and the fight will headline the event, which will be the UFC’s second trip into Canada

Silva and Leites are currently both on solid winning streaks with the champion riding a nine-fight stretch while his opponent has won five in a row.

No other fights have been announced for the card, but it is expected that much like the first show in Montreal, numerous Canadians will fill out the roster for the hometown crowd.

The last event held in Canada featured hometown favorite Georges St. Pierre regaining his welterweight title in a TKO win over Matt Serra. The Belle Centre packed in over 20,000 fans for the live event and was considered one of the biggest shows in UFC history.
