Reports surfaced yesterday on GracieFighter.com that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua had injured his knee and may be out of his upcoming UFC appearance.

MMAWeekly’s Ivan Canello contacted Master Rudimar Fedrigo today, Rua’s trainer at Chute Boxe. He indicated that Rua had indeed suffered a knee injury, but added, “It was a little injury. He will keep training every day. He will come back [from the U.S.] to train and he will keep doing his physical therapy sessions every day.”

Fedrigo said that it is nothing more than a little pain in Rua’s knee and it will not affect his ability to fight. It is unclear though when his next fight will be.

Rua’s contract allows him to fight either in Pride or the UFC and they have not yet been offered a specific fight. They have said in the past though that a fight is likely in August or September. If this is true, it will have to be a UFC fight, as no Pride events are currently scheduled, according to recent comments made by UFC President Dana White.
