Shooto ‘Back to our Roots’ Results – Aoki Wins, Two New Pac-Rim Champions

Shooto 167-pound Champion Shinya Aoki retained his belt with a close split decision over Akira Kikuchi. Aoki defeated the Killer Bee fighter exactly one year ago to win the Shooto Middleweight title. The first two rounds consisted of Aoki working for submissions from his guard while Kikuchi looked to ground-n-pound. After three rounds, the judges awarded Aoki with a very close split decision.

Akitoshi Tamura avenged a previous loss to Tenkei Fujimiya to win the Shooto Lightweight Pac-Rim title. Tenkei knocked out Akitoshi last May at Shooto – The Devilock. Tamura outworked Fujimiya in the first two rounds to earn a unanimous decision. Fujimiya had a point taken away from him in the second round for illegally holding onto Tamura’s glove.

Takashi Nakakura defeated Mizuto Hirota to claim the vacant Shooto Welterweight Pac-Rim belt. Nakakura dropped the 2005 Shooto rookie standout in the second round en route to a unanimous decision.

Shooto Lightweight Champion Takeshi Inoue defeated Hiroyuki Abe via KO in a non-title bout. Abe dropped “Lion” early on and the champion was seemingly in trouble. The aggressive Abe was on the verge of pulling off an upset until a counter left hook from Inoue put him on the canvas.

Rumina Sato vs. Augusto Frota was announced for a March 16th show.
