Shayna Baszler Injured, Forced Out of TUF Nations Finale Against Sarah Kaufman

Shayna Baszler vs Alexis DavisAs the UFC put it, this is a bummer.

Shayna Baszler has suffered an injury and been forced out of her TUF Nations Finale fight with Sarah Kaufman, officials announced on Tuesday.

The nature of Baszler’s injury was not disclosed, and a replacement opponent is currently being sought to face Kaufman on the April 16 card.

Baszler (15-8) was scheduled to make her UFC debut with the Kaufman fight, after losing in the TUF 18 tournament to eventual champion Julianna Peña.

Kaufman (16-2, 1 NC) is yet to earn her first Octagon victory. The former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion initially lost a split decision to Jessica Eye at UFC 166, but the fight was later ruled a no-contest when Eye failed her post-fight drug test.

The scratched match-up would have been a rematch between the fighters. Their first meeting took place on a Strikeforce Challengers card in 2009, when Kaufman won a unanimous decision.

The TUF Nations Finale is scheduled to be headlined by a middleweight fight between Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy.
