Kazushi Sakuraba and Royce Gracie, in 2000, fought to one of the epic battles in mixed martial arts history. They rematch Saturday night at the L.A. Coliseum on the pay-per-view portion of the K-1/EliteXC co-promotion Dynamite!! USA.

Both have seen better days in their fight careers, but both still look to have the fight in them. For his part, Sakuraba has formed a partnership with the famed Chute Boxe Academy, home to fighters the likes of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Wanderlei Silva. The head of Chute Boxe, Rudimar Fedrigo told MMAWeekly, “Sakuraba is ten years younger,” referring to his physical condition. “He is ready for this fight.”

Jake Shields, who represents the Cesar Gracie Fight Team, is the headline fight for the Showtime premium channel telecast of the EliteXC portion of the event. He faces a difficult task if for no other reason than his opponent is an unknown quantity. There is very little information or video footage of Ido Pariente for Shields to study.

But following a difficult year in which Shields battled just to keep his fights intact, the California native is ready to display his skills before the masses on Showtime.

MMAWeekly caught up with Sakuraba and Shields in California. Both fighters’ interviews are available now In The Cage.
