Roxanne Modafferi Surprised by Invicta FC 16 Split Decision, Wants Title Shot

March 15, 2016

“The Happy Warrior,” female mixed martial arts pioneer Roxanne Modafferi, has strung together back-to-back wins. The 33-year-old has shown vast improvements in her striking and hopes to fight for the interim title next.

Modafferi defeated former title challenger DeAnna Bennett by split decision at Invicta FC 16 on March 11, but she was shocked at the judges’ scores. She thought she should have won unanimously.

“When the fight ended, I was pretty sure that I had won. I was a little surprised to hear the split. I was a little surprised,” she said immediately following the fight during her backstage interview.

When asked what fight she wants next, Modafferi didn’t hesitate to call for a fight against newly crowned interim champion Jennifer Maia.

“I want the title fight. I should have said that in the cage. I want the title fight against [Maia].”
