Ronda Rousey Has Another Contender as World Champion Boxer Holly Holm Signs with the UFC

July 10, 2014

Holly HolmIt’s unclear who UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s next challenger will be upon her return from a broken thumb and knee surgery, but there will be one more fighter vying for the option.

UFC president Dana White on Thursday tweeted that the promotion had just signed world-champion-boxer-turned-mixed-martial-artist Holly Holm.

The signing is the culmination of months of negotiations that intermittently ran hot and cold.

White did not reveal the details of Holm’s contract. She won’t likely jump into an title shot with Rousey in her UFC debut, but Holm is sure to be on the short list if she can enter the Octagon and immediately win a fight or two.

Holm boasts a 33-2-3 professional boxing record with multiple world titles to her credit. She made the transition to MMA in 2011 and is undefeated with six of her seven wins coming by way of knockout. She is the first and current Legacy FC women’s bantamweight champion.

She trains out of the Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in Albuquerque, N.M., alongside light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, welterweight contender Carlos Condit, lightweight Donald Cerrone, and many other notables.

There was no word at the time of publication as to when, where or whom Holm would make her UFC debut against.
