The trend of positive drug tests in mixed martial arts continues as former UFC and WSOF welterweight title contender Jon Fitch reportedly failed a pre-fight test for his WSOF 16 title fight against Rousimar Palhares.
MMAJunkie.com first reported the news. The California State Athletic Commission confirmed on Friday that Fitch was flagged for an “adverse result,” but the commission didn’t disclose what substance the 36-year-old was flagged for in the results.
WSOF 16 took place at the McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, Calif. on Dec. 13. Fitch (26-7-1, 1 NC) fell victim to Palhares’ leg lock submission game, tapping out to a knee bar in the opening round of the fight card’s main event.
Fitch faces a one-year suspension and a $2,500 fine. He can appeal the commission’s findings during a future CSAC hearing.
