Quinn Mulhern Drops to Lightweight to Face Ryan Couture at UFC 164

Quinn MulhernRyan Couture and Quinn Mulhern, two former Strikeforce fighters, are set to square off in a lightweight bout at UFC 164 on Aug. 31 in Milwaukee.

UFC officials announced the new bout on Tuesday.

Couture and Mulhern is each making his sophomore appearance for the promotion, and each lost his UFC debut.

Couture (6-2) was on a four-fight streak entering the Octagon, but couldn’t keep the momentum going when he faced Ross Pearson at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in Sweden. Pearson took the fight to Couture, defeating him by TKO stoppage late in the second round.

Mulhern (18-5) suffered a TKO loss to Rick Story in his Octagon debut at UFC 158. That bout, like the majority of Mulhern’s past bouts, was at welterweight. He is now making the move down to 155 pounds to face Couture.

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson puts his belt on the line against T.J. Grant in the UFC 164 main event.
