Once again the underdog, last night in Las Vegas, Jens Pulver wasn’t turn the tide the way he did five years ago. In fact, he wasn’t able to muster up much by way of a counter to BJ Penn’s tidal wave attack. It was all Pulver could do to escape Penn’s submissions and stay in the fight.

Pulver looked to be in as good of shape as he had been in their first meeting, maybe better. But Penn looked to be light years of where he was in 2002. He seemed a nitro-fueled dragster to Pulver’s street rod.

Pulver helped to create the lightweight division in the UFC. He was the promotion’s first champion. Penn then came along and helped steel it. But Pulver realizes that the division has passed him by and that he would be much better suited to the lighter featherweight division and it’s 145-pound limit.

In this post fight video interview, Pulver discussed the difficulties he faced against Penn compared to their first meeting, both of their histories in the lightweight class, his readiness to move to featherweight and more.
