Pittsburgh Becomes Finalist for UFC on Versus 4 Show on June 26

Could the UFC finally be ready to visit the Steel City?

As the UFC starts to lay out their summer schedule, UFC on Versus 4 on June 26 could end up in Pittsburgh.

Sources have indicated that a venue in Pittsburgh has been reserved and is one of the final candidates for the June event, although no contracts have been finalized at this time.

The Consol Energy Center, which is home to the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, currently doesn’t have an event scheduled on June 26, which bodes well for a possible UFC event taking place that night.

Pittsburgh has long lobbied for a UFC event since the state of Pennsylvania sanctioned MMA in 2009. The UFC took an event to Philadelphia later that year, but has yet to hold a show in the western part of Pennsylvania.

“UFC in Pittsburgh would be huge. I am sure it would sell out 15,000 plus,” said Pennsylvania Athletic Commission Executive Director Greg Sirb in an interview with MMAWeekly.com in 2010. “(The) Philadelphia UFC was the largest grossing event this commission ever had, people are still talking about that night.”

Milwaukee, Wisc., has also been in the running for the June show, and it still may end up with the UFC on Versus 4 fight card, but for now it appears Pittsburgh is leading the race.

MMAWeekly.com will have more information on the upcoming UFC on Versus 4 show when it becomes available.
