In the final two rounds of Pride’s 183-pound Grand Prix, Paulo Filho was the only fighter to decisively finish his opponent. Unfortunately for the Brazilian Top Team fighter, he suffered a torn meniscus in doing so and was unable to continue on into the final.

According to reports out of Brazil, Filho underwent a successful surgery on November 23rd in Rio de Janeiro to repair the knee.

His doctor, Dr. Cláudio Vítor, has also performed operations on the likes of Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira and Mario Sperry. Dr. Vitor was reported as saying that the operation went well and that it would be about a month before Filho will be able to train again. Filho is currently the #3 Middleweight in the MMAWeekly Rankings.

Following his withdrawal from the Grand Prix final, under Pride rules, the opponent that he defeated, Kazuo Misaki, was reinstated to take his place in the final bout. Misaki ended up winning a split decision over Denis Kang and taking the Grand Prix title.
